Technically, Media Production includes Broadcast, Video, Images and Pretty much any Online Communications for that Matter!
Media production is the future!
For this reason, we officially changed our company vision from film to media production because social and online publishing has evolved. Consequently, the need for multiple media components including text, photo, and images for publishing became lucrative.
Our company has been doing video productions, a form of media communication and production. We produce media for brands and can be considered as commercial production. This includes live-action shooting, animation, visual effects, illustration, photography, event videography, interviews, scripts, and even concept development.
The Overlooked Elements of Media Production
One of the overlooked elements of media production is the research, writing, and scripting phase which develops a concept for production. Importantly, workshop the idea into a production book document with your entire production written down on paper. It is a serious media producing job.
When you hear the word production coordinator that’s when media producers are taking that amazing idea and re-purpose a plan of action, timeline and some dates with the schedule.
In addition, some of the necessary elements of media production are the research, development, and casting phase. Securing the talent, location, and properties to be in front of the camera is a primary focus.
Print and Broadcast Advertising, Parts of Media Production
Print and broadcast advertising is certainly a big part of media buys. To point out, we don’t get as many requests for broadcast anymore and mostly focus on internet marketing and promotion online. It is because these mediums encourage more specific target viewership which is great for measuring results.
With any great media production some of the most important foundation pieces are;
- First, a strong Vision that gets you excited to produce a strong spot and enroll your team in a series of successful outcomes.
- Next, some specific measurable which helped you determine success. I like to think of a strong emotion I want my viewer to experience and an action I want them to take.
- Finally, a specific Target viewer that I like to build out into a customer Avatar with picture, location, gender, ethnicity, interests, and even their income.
Defining some of these important founding elements really helps to align the production. Thus, making decisions become easy.
Biggest Challenges when Building Trust with a new Client
A lot of projects don’t get a large viewership because they’re either made for web and therefore they sit on the client’s website, or they just aren’t promoted properly.
On the other hand, I’m going to leave out the obvious nightmare scenario of having a low-quality project that a client doesn’t want to share. I haven’t had one of these for many years and it is one of the biggest challenges when building trust with a new client.
For example, a potential workflow might look like this;
- Conception, this is where a specific message is defined to communicate to your audience
- Planning, this is where the logistics of telling your story and the mediums to bring it to life such as film, photography, illustration, animation or even 3D visualization
- Production, after everything, is approved and reviewed by the client. We go about booking and executing your vision with precision
- Refinement is where you can take a polished message and start to exceed expectations by collaborating with your executive producer. Then aligning the vision and making sure all those outcomes are knocked out of the park!
For example, grabbing a viewer’s attention and encouraging them to listen is a highly advanced skill. Strong media communication is something a producer may train for years to achieve.
Empower Individual and Distribute Control
People are consuming media at an ever-growing rate. Social publishing and online advertising have turned the average person into a monster, consuming thousands of media elements per day.
Traditionally, the “Media Industry” would have controlled the viewership but internet access empowers an individual and distributes the control across consumers. Brands once had to conform to big-box media publishing guidelines. Now they were truly viewers for any potential medium.
Media is always changing and evolving. Moreover, what’s cool and trendy may go viral or spark of flurry of shares. However, the basic principles of a good communication will always stay the same.
One of the biggest consistencies in media publishing is human nature and emotion. This element just won’t be changing anytime soon.
Powerful Brand Leverage, Direct Personal Connection
The most powerful leverage a brand can a mast is a direct personal connection, in particular. Even more so, it is challenging to create a direct personal connection with an inanimate object. Since one of the basics of encouraging human connection is combining good looking healthy people with a brand. These so-called lifestyle productions reach you through association. It is by drawing a person to a lifestyle philosophy.
For instance, one of my favorite things is shooting good-looking men and women very similar to the target viewer. Although, it’s great to see regular people interacting with the brand and a product too.
